"I had forgotten to tell you that being in Salzburg and Gastein and its surroundings fire even the most audacious imaginations."
So wrote Schubert to his friend Bauernfeld after a 3-week stay in Gastein in the late summer of 1825. While Johann Michael Vogl, first major interpreter of the songs and therefore an important mentor, sought to cure his gout, Schubert surrendered to the overwhelming impressions of nature and wrote along the way a powerful piano sonata as well as two songs to the poems of Johann Ladislaus Pyrker, whom he met there.
As we would like to believe, if Schubert’s genius had have been able to develop in each surrounding area, you could perhaps imagine a Schubert-Festival all over.
However "all over" in Gastein there is a fantastic natural backdrop. The chance to bring together art and nature, was pivotal for us, who loved and admired Schubert! The success that we depends not least upon how keenly we fire up our imagination.
Snow Jazz Gastein
Snow Jazz Gastein is a tightrope walk "on the highest level", between spa and ski pleasure, the breathtaking nature of the Gastein Valley and contemporary Jazz.

Jazz in the sawmill
In 2000 the club, "Music & Art & Literature in the Sawmill" was set-up on Angerweg 32, in A-5630 Bad Hofgastein. The old saw mill was set-up just for this purpose, newly formed and due to the initiative of Sepp Grabmaier has become one of the most significant cultural places for not yet known and also established artists, in particular Jazz musicians.

The focal point is Jazz, but literature, painting and artists creating objects also get a look in here. Once a year, mostly in late summer there is a block cabaret planned – film screenings and exhibitions also enrich the cultural scene.
Mozart week
On Mozart’s birthday, 27th January the Internationale Stiftung Mozarteum has, since 1954, been placing an artistic focus in the European concerts, which cannot be outdone during the entire year.
