In the Gasteinertal
The Natural cave "Entrische Kirche":
This show cave is not just the largest natural cave in the Salzburger Central Alps and one of the most important fringes of the Hohen Tauern, it also has a double distinction – the cave was awarded "Natura 2000" the European serve system by the European Union. A popular excursion for the whole family.
The size of the halls, the wonderful stalactite formations and the rock formations, created by the power of the water after the Ice Ages will amaze young and old. Qualified cave guides explain how this magical fairytale world came into being. As required this is in English and Italian. You can get to the ground floor without any equipment thanks to a well-built path, 400 m in length. Having your own torch is an advantage. Cave temperature around +6° celsius. (warm clothing and sturdy shoes recommended).
Due to its high level of positive earth rays the cave is also a "place of power". Many visitors claim that their illnesses and ailments have been alleviated. During the guided trip you cross magnetic fields, greater than those in Lourdes (F), well-known for healing. Sittings and meditation possible on request.
For those of you who love "special things", a "big cave tour" is arranged in the 1st floor, which lasts 4 - 6 hours. An adventure and a pure discovery of nature. However equipment and advance reservation are required for this.
The cave from a cultural and historical point of view: it was formerly a secret meeting place for the Lutherans in Gastein. On the first Saturday in September the annual ecumenical church service takes place in the cave. Everyone is cordially invited.
Klammstein castle:
At the entrance to the Gasteinertal, 60 metres above the access road on the Klammstein (850 m over sea level is Klammstein castle, the oldest historical building. The earliest settlement of the Gasteinertal has its beginnings here. (Numerous prehistoric findings are evidence of this.) Many well-known dynasties developed this castle into a fortress to the protect the valley and its inhabitants. Up until the 16th century the headquarters of mines and the courts were also found here. In the last two decades the ruins of the dilapidated castle have been restored and it is not just a sign of the erstwhile size and power of its owners but is also a reflection of the history and fate of the Gastein population.
Archery parcours:
The archery parcours unique to the Gasteinertal starts after a brief introductory session right in the Waldgasthof and takes you on a hunt for true to life replicas of animals over open an open area and through an idyllic forest path.
You have to "shoot" animals with a bow and arrow and get points for every hit. The points are noted down and later help decide who was the best "hunter" in the round.
In our own bow hire area there is equipment for all big and small hunters. Time needed for 1x parcours is approx. 1.5 hours. The hunting season starts from Whistun and end in mid October. Our “animals” get a respite every Monday and Tuesday (closed). In August it is only Tuesday (closed).
