Hiking in the Gastein Alps Huts and Alps in Gastein Valley

Trekking in Salzburg

When you let out a hearty "cry of joy", a vociferous cheer welcomes you in the distance, then you’re on an Alp! People and animals from Gasteintal have for centuries been spending the summer months on the high lying mountain pastures. Escape from the heat of the big city into the cool, pure mountain air! Swap the multi-storey buildings for Alpine huts and business contacts for hospitality from the heart.

Families with children will certainly find their favourite Alp in the great selection of 55 Alps which have areas to eat, as will mountain walkers and mountaineers. Many delicious foods are home made on the mountain pastures. Of course Alpine walking will give you a real appetite to enjoy copious amounts of cheese, butter, bacon, bread and many Alpine specialities in a social setting. Bake your bread on the Alp yourself, then it will taste twice as good! By the way: the "Alpine rose" is a plant whose abundant pink and red petals immerse the Alps in a blazing sea of colour in June.

Spend the night on an Alpine pasture! Experience the slow setting of the sun, the sunset, the night drawing in and the silence which surrounds you. Look for constellations with your children and listen to the tawny owl and the eagle owl calling quietly from the wood. For lovers the Präau-Hochalm in Dorfgastein has come up with something quite special – a "honeymoon suite" in the middle of the romantic mountain landscape. Live your Midsummer Night’s Dream!
