It takes the rain water three millennia, to trickle down 2000 metres deep into the interior of the earth. It is here that it heats up, bubbles up again and gushes out of the mountain at 1000 metres sea level. Around five million litres of fresh thermal water are obtained every day from 17 Gastein springs. Enriched with natural radon and with a temperature of up to 46 degrees, this thermal water is particularly effective for revitalising the cells in the human body, in all its application forms.
The warmth supports the circulation and the altitude of the Gastein spas at between 800 and 1200 metres promotes oxygen supply to the body. Radon, warmth and altitude – this combination is one-of-a-kind in the world.

Legend - in the midst of the wilderness which prevailed in the Gastein Valley at that time there lived, according to the legend, two pious hermits - Primus and Felician. They knew all about the hot springs and their wonderful healing powers.
High above the Drei Waller hunters came, chasing elusive wild venison. It had already been hit by one of the hunter’s arrows and they were following the bloody tracks. Arriving at the mighty waterfall the forest thinned out and hot steam was coming out of a crack in the rocks. The pious hermits washed the animal’s wounds with the warm water and pleaded with the gallant hunters not to kill the fine stag and instead to take the healing powers of the warm water to the outside world, so that all sick and suffering people could be healed and could recover...
