In the heart of the Austrian Alps the Hohe Tauern National Park offers a protected habitat for threatened animal and plant species. At 1800 km² the Hohe Tauern National Park is the second largest in Europe. Here you can experience nature at its most beautiful: Austria’s highest mountain peak and largest glacier, meadows peppered with colourful Alpine flowers, imposing rocks and refreshing waterfalls. Centuries old, natural and cultural landscape formed by the ice ages and the power of the seasons are waiting to be discovered by you!

The highest mountain in Austria, the Großglockner awaits with a proud 3798 metres above sea level. At its foot lies the longest glacier tongue in Austria, the Pasterze. Via Großglockner Hochalpenstraße you can reach the impressive and unique landscape with ease. Once you get to the top you can observe the ibex and the marmots through your telescope as they romp about in the craggy rocky area.

Winter is long in the mountains. This means the vitality of the plants and the animals is unfurls all the more intensively in the Alpine summer. Ibex, bearded vultures, marmots and lots of others enjoy the life-giving sun on the warm rocky plateau. Time is short, to raise their offspring and put on some extra necessary fat for winter.
